The Theatre and Civic Engagement Program offers undergraduate and graduate Theatre students the opportunity to create artistic exchange strategies with our communities in Westchester County and New York City. Founded in 1974 by faculty member emerita Shirley Kaplan, the program was originally titled Theatre Outreach and is presently led by Theatre and Civic Engagement Program director Allen Lang.

Our Yonkers, Our Youth, Our Stories

Our Yonkers Our Youth Our Stories is a virtual event series that explores essential youth programs in Yonkers, along with the amazing people who develop, create, and run them. OYOYOS explore the role of the seer, the doer, and the visionary who makes a difference in our community by creating, leading, and developing essential and innovative programming that involves youth

An essential component of Theatre and Civic Engagement, offers a free process-centered theatre curriculum for members of the local community across age levels, including senior citizens, high school students, and early childhood programming.

Hudson River Museum

Hudson River Museum

Since 2005, SLC's Theatre and Civic Engagement program has collaborated with the Hudson River Museum. Participants respond to Museum exhibitions through workshops, original theatre performances in the galleries, as well as inner and outer landscape poems, imagery, and video.

A site-specific video exploration series created by Theatre and Civic Engagement students, which connects the energy and creativity of Sarah Lawrence students to the aliveness and vibrancy of Yonkers.
