Sarah Lawrence College Counseling & Psychological Services practitioners are trained to work with a diverse range of issues and can help students identify their treatment goals. Our staff are generalists and well equipped at treating the diverse needs of undergraduate and graduate students. We routinely treat students for depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and other psychological concerns. Our staff includes licensed psychologists, clinical social workers, and a part-time psychiatrist.
All services begin with an initial 30-minute tele-health consultation where students have the opportunity to talk about the concerns they wish to address. Based on the information presented, the therapist and the student will decide upon a treatment plan. Treatment plans may include on-campus care, off-campus referrals, or a combination of the two. Tyre Nichols: Community Support and Resources
The impact of violence permeates our culture and we are experiencing vicarious and collective trauma given the result of constant reports around violence, both individual and those directed at communities of color. These disturbing events can lead to post-traumatic distress among victims and bystanders and are triggers for those who have experienced similar violent events in their own pasts.
We are here to support and uplift students in the BIPOC communities, especially those who feel traumatized by this violence and/or would like a space to process their feelings. Please reach out to Health & Wellness, Counseling and Psychological Services 914-395-2350.
The frequency of mass shootings and the most recent news coverage about Tyre Nichols, amplified by our near-constant access to media coverage of such events, amounts to an accumulation of exposure that can negatively impact one’s mental health. Whether you choose to watch or not watch the released video, please know that the cumulative stress of the violent events of the last several years takes a toll.
Here are some links to consider your well-being and attend to your self-care in an intentional way.

On-Campus Care
On-campus care begins with a tele-health consultation. During this consultation you and your provider will determine your next steps, which may include any of the following options.
Short Term Psychotherapy
Our staff therapists are trained to work with a diverse range of issues and can work with you to identify your short term therapy goals. We are generalists and well equipped at navigating the diverse needs of undergraduate and graduate students. We are a hybrid model of in-person and teletherapy with Mantra health and see students every other week for short term therapy of 6 sessions.
We may recommend consideration of more ongoing long-term therapy to help you navigate your concerns. Our clinical case manager can work with students to provide referrals. Additionally Thriving Campus is a resource as well https://sarahlawrence.thrivingcampus.com/
Group Therapy Sessions
A weekly opportunity to meet with students struggling with similar challenges. Our groups are facilitated by a clinician and provide a confidential space to gain support, healing, and perspective. Unlimited sessions per academic year.
Our groups vary every semester and typically begin the 3rd week of the semester.
Let’s Talk
Talking can help. Let’s Talk is a 15-20 minute supportive drop in, one-on-one consultation with a Counseling and Psychological Services therapist. This is NOT a substitute for therapy but an opportunity for brief, solution oriented discussion. Check the daily SLC email blast for weekly location.
Off-Campus Care
The SLC Counseling & Psychological Services Center has established relationships in Bronxville, Yonkers, Westchester County, and New York City that allow us to provide referrals to off-campus mental health specialists for ongoing and long term care.
Students who have enrolled in the SLC Student Health Insurance Plan are covered for treatment with any off campus licensed mental health clinician at 80% of reasonable and customary charges after a $150 annual deductible.
Students who are covered by plans other than the SLC Student Health Insurance Plan must contact their insurance plans directly to obtain coverage information.
If you are interested in receiving a referral for an off-campus provider or would like to discuss options for care, please contact Nancy Brennan, LMSW clinical case manager.
