The Early Childhood Center

Our Philosophy

The Early Childhood Center's model is deeply rooted in a belief that children learn best through active engagement with people, materials, ideas, and the world around them.

Teachers provide carefully considered structure while allowing children substantial opportunities to make choices, pursue interests, and engage deeply in their work and play. Direct, hands-on experience is central to learning.

In the Early Childhood Center program:

  • Language learning is integral, with emphasis on understanding and communicating ideas and information.
  • Children are given abundant time to explore and experiment.
  • There are daily opportunities to work alone, in small groups, and as members of the group as a whole.
  • The outdoor environment plays a vital role. Children have ample time and space to explore the classroom outside as closely as the classroom inside.

Two kids sit at a table, drawing on colorful paper. A basket with more paper is in the background.

My son has blossomed into a curious, independent, expressive little boy who is always questioning, always exploring. I credit the ECC with fostering that independence and curiosity and giving him room to use his imagination. I am grateful for the foundation he has received during his time here, and I know that he will carry what he has learned with him throughout his childhood.
