Summer Arts in Berlin, Germany

Summer Arts in Berlin, Germany

In this program, students engage with Berlin and its well-earned reputation as a city for the arts. They learn about modern German history through literature, dance, visual arts, architecture, and by creating their own work. In addition, the program now offers creative writing (poetry/short fiction).

In 2018, we will visit Dessau, home of the Bauhaus from 1925-1933. From architecture to typography, from dance to furniture design, from weaving to educational concepts—Bauhaus influences continue to inform our notions about art and theater, and even our everyday life. In this UNESCO-designated city, we will spend time at preserved heritage sites and the museum to learn more about the Bauhaus’ overarching ideology.

Summer in Florence, Italy

Summer in Florence, Italy

Join art history faculty member Joseph Forte in exploring the major jewels and little known gems of Florence, Italy. Students will study the history and art history of Florence: the center of medieval Tuscany, the birthplace of the Renaissance, and the source of so many of the ideas that we associate with contemporary art and artists.
