Center for the Urban River at Beczak
The Center for the Urban River at Beczak (CURB) is SLC’s off-campus academic research facility located on the banks of the Hudson River in downtown Yonkers. CURB is dedicated to advancing environmental literacy and stewardship of the Hudson River through education, research, and community engagement, prioritizing Yonkers youth development, environmental justice, and inclusivity. Signature programs include field trips for K-12 students, intensive high school internships, ecological research of the river's biodiversity, and water quality monitoring. SLC students can engage with CURB in many ways including volunteering, paid school-year and summer internships, independent study for credit, the SLC EmbeddEd course, and use of CURB’s facility and lab for conference projects. Interested students are encouraged to visit their site at www.slccurb.org or email the CURB Director, Ryan Palmer, at rpalmer@sarahlawrence.edu.
