Spiritual Life supports the religious, spiritual and moral well-being of all students. Spiritual Life serves students of all faith traditions and spiritual backgrounds, including those with no affiliation. Spiritual Life provides one-on-one guidance and programming that promotes communal care, honors diverse religious and spiritual expressions, and makes space for the sacred in everyday life. The Director of Spiritual Life advises the religious and spiritual student organizations, in addition to mentoring students to create new organizations to represent the diversity of traditions on campus.

  • Spiritual Life oversees the Spiritual Space in the HUB. The Spiritual Space is open to all students from 7 AM - 2 AM every day. It is a quiet atmosphere for meditation, prayer and sacred observances. The Spiritual Space includes an ablution area, a newly updated religious/spiritual library, and dedicated storage for religious and spiritual student organizations. It can be reserved as a meeting place for religious and spiritual student organizations and sacred events.

  • Spiritual Life also oversees the Halal/Kosher kitchen in the HUB. It is available for use to students who keep kosher or halal, as well as students who agree to abide by its guidelines of separation. Please note that the kosher cooking in the kitchen is vegetarian; the halal and kosher cooking have separate equipment, sinks and food storage. To use this kitchen, students must complete training and sign an agreement for appropriate use.

  • The Director of Spiritual Life offers counseling for students developing their values, moving through grief, and navigating belief systems. They can also connect students to a network of religious and spiritual communities and resources in Bronxville, Yonkers, and Westchester. Email to schedule a meeting: flee@sarahlawrence.edu.

Frances Lee

Director of Spiritual Life

Frances Lee (they/them) is the inaugural Director of Spiritual Life at Sarah Lawrence College. They are a sacred space convener, ritual innovator, and essayist. Frances received their Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Harvard Divinity School in 2024, and a Master of Arts (MA) in Cultural Studies from the University of Washington Bothell in 2018.
