Sarah Lawrence College

Navigating Climate Solutions and Global Impact with Lindsay Iversen ’04

In this episode, Pearl Gauthier (’27), Lola Martin (’25), Madeline Cho (’25), and Claire Denne (’27) interview alum Lindsay Iversen (’04), who works in climate mitigation and foreign relations. Iversen speaks about her unique experience at Sarah Lawrence, learning experiences, transitioning from college to working, networking, and graduate school. She also addresses the changing field of climate mitigation and international relations, small everyday positives, how to stay motivated, and offers her personal glimpses of hope for the future.

How would you describe the overall theme(s) of this conversation?

The conversation was centered around the themes of climate change, mitigation, and international relations, since that is the industry that Lindsay is a part of. I would also say this conversation was very question and answer rather than a conversation.

A lot of talk about networking and making connections at SLC. They also talked about how Sarah Lawrence changed in the way that it supports its students.

There was a lot of great discussion about authentic networking! Additionally, the
strengths and weaknesses of being a Sarah Lawrence student in the job search process.

What were the strengths of this conversation?

A strength of this conversation was how Lindsay kept comparing her line of work to the type of independent research work she did while at Sarah Lawrence. So it shows the practical application that research at Sarah Lawrence has with a professional career. I also thought her point of the importance of networking amongst people with common interests and surrounding yourself with like minded people was a strength and important.

Students asked really thoughtful questions, Iversen provided very detailed answers.

The questions seemed interesting and insightful while also being easy to follow. It seemed to flow nicely as well. Everyone built off each other's questions.

If you were to recommend this conversation to a friend, why (specifically) would recommend it?

I would recommend this conversation to a friend because of Lindsay’s comment about approaches to failures. She said, “I've tried to approach failures as learning experiences.” I think this is so important and valuable because that is how I view them and I believe it is important for others to hear that as well. I would also recommend it to others to hear about how to be self-driven and if they are interested in this industry.

I have one friend who is really interested in the concept of collective memory, and I think she would love this conversation!

I recommend it to any Sarah Lawrence students who are worried about their futures, as Lindsay shows that this transition to the workplace can happen naturally and organically.
