Sarah Lawrence College has reviewed the recent report by the House Committee on Education and Workforce and we take seriously the concerns it raises regarding antisemitism on college campuses. We engaged with the Committee’s inquiry in good faith, consistent with our legal obligations and longstanding commitments to student privacy.
While the College does not agree with aspects of the report, and does not believe it reflects the full context and broad range of efforts undertaken by the College to support our community, this does not diminish the seriousness and complexity of these issues nor the ongoing challenges our community continues to navigate.
Sarah Lawrence utilizes the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism, as recommended by Jewish faculty members with relevant scholarly expertise, as guidance for training in our orientation materials and implementation of our policies regarding identifying and adjudicating instances of antisemitism. Among the report’s recommendations are steps the College has already taken, including expanded education and strengthened support for Jewish student life.
Sarah Lawrence College remains steadfast in our commitment to addressing antisemitism and all forms of discrimination, while upholding the principles of academic freedom and intellectual inquiry that define a Sarah Lawrence education.
