The Sarah Lawrence community mourns the loss of alumna and former chair of the Board of Trustees Enid Silver Ship, who passed away on October 13, 2025.
A 1956 graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, Enid was a proud and active member of the community as both a student and an alumna. In her undergraduate years, Enid concentrated her studies in the sciences, literature, and writing, and was known as an eloquent and prolific poet who often composed poems to mark special occasions at the College. She also was a member of the student newspaper staff.
In her decades of service to the College after graduation, she was president of the Alumnae/i Association, a member of the Board of Trustees from 1977-88, and chair of the board from 1981-87. At Reunion 2003 she was honored with a Citation for Service, which featured a reflection on Enid from former president Charles DeCarlo, who called her “a strong and deeply committed woman who cares deeply about Sarah Lawrence and has always translated her concern into helpful and decisive action.”
