In sixteenth century Italy, Michelangelo was heralded as the creator of a "New Nature" filled with muscular ideal nudes and complex hidden meanings. He was recognized in his time as the draughtsman supreme, the unrivaled epitome of both the form, technique, and uses of drawings as a planning tool, an expression of the imagination and the divine, and later in his career a sign of his new found religious devotion. Forte will lead a discussion on the blockbuster exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, "Michelangelo: Divine Draftsman and Designer," which will feature a slide lecture on the major works in the exhibitions, illustrations of works that either inspired or were related to his works, and discussions of the complex ideas and major figures, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and the 16th century mystic and poet, Vittoria Colonna, that influenced their form.
