Wendy Pearlman, a political scientist and specialist in Middle Eastern studies at Northwestern University, will give an overview of the origins and trajectory of the Syrian Civil War and the roots of the Syrian refugee crisis. She will draw on the interviews that she has done with more than 300 displaced Syrians in seven countries across the Middle East and Europe, which form the basis for her book of Syrian life stories to be published by HarperCollins in 2017.
