Lifelong Learning

Life's Next Chapter at Sarah Lawrence

A Time to Explore What Comes Next

Life is not one experience or a single stage. It can be a time of transition, discovery, reinvention, creative growth, and renewed engagement with the questions that matter most.

At Sarah Lawrence, adults can explore ideas, develop their creativity, find meaningful connections, and imagine new possibilities through intellectually rigorous programs grounded in curiosity, conversation, and community.

Center for Midlife and Meaning

What questions will shape what comes next?

Explore the transitions, possibilities, and questions of the second half of life. Programs examine identity, purpose, aging, contribution and relationships, and help participants move from thinking about what they are leaving behind to imagining what they might move toward.

Extension Courses

What do you still want to understand or learn?

Follow a new curiosity or return to a longstanding interest through noncredit courses, lectures, studios, and workshops across the arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences. No prerequisites. No grades. Just serious, conversation-driven learning in flexible on-campus and online formats.

The Writing Institute

What will you create?

Writing helps us discover meaning in experiences we have not fully understood and consider the stories we want to explore, record, revise, or pass on. The Writing Institute welcomes writers at every level into workshops, classes, seminars, readings, and a supportive creative community.

Signature Learning Community

Who will you continue learning with?

The Signature Learning Community is a membership program for adults 55+ seeking intellectual challenge, meaningful connection, and an ongoing relationship with Sarah Lawrence. Members enjoy distinctive learning opportunities, community events, Extension Course discounts, and additional ways to take part in the life of the College.

Partnering with Retirement Communities

How can a retirement community become a place from which residents continue to investigate, engage with, and contribute to the world?

Sarah Lawrence works with retirement communities to create sustained educational partnerships shaped by residents’ interests. Through resident focus groups and collaboration with community leaders, we develop courses, seminars, lectures, workshops, and creative experiences that foster intellectual engagement, meaningful connection, and a distinctive culture of inquiry, not simply a fuller activities calendar.
