Lifelong Learning

Kids at Sarah Lawrence

A Place to Learn, Create, and Grow

At Sarah Lawrence College, learning begins long before college. Our programs invite children and teens to follow their curiosity, express their creativity, explore the natural world, and connect with others through meaningful, hands-on experiences.

From preschool and imaginative play to environmental discovery, theatre, movement, and college-level study, young people can find opportunities designed for every stage of their development.

Early Childhood Center

The Early Childhood Center offers a thoughtful, progressive preschool and kindergarten curriculum for children ages 2–6. Through play, exploration, and rich on-campus experiences, children develop their creativity, curiosity, independence, and relationships with others in a nurturing learning community.

Creative Movement for Children

Creative Movement classes give children a joyful and supportive space to explore movement, imagination, and self-expression. Guided by Sarah Lawrence Dance/Movement Therapy graduate students, participants build confidence, develop body awareness, and connect with others through movement and play.

K–12 Programs at the Center for the Urban River

At the Sarah Lawrence College Center for the Urban River at Beczak (CURB), the Hudson River becomes the classroom. Inquiry-based field trips and educational programs invite students to investigate local ecosystems through observation, exploration, and hands-on scientific discovery.

Precollege Programs

Sarah Lawrence precollege programs give curious and creative high school students an opportunity to experience college-level learning in a welcoming, collaborative environment. Through immersive programs in writing, theatre, visual arts, science, and other fields, students develop their skills, deepen their interests, and connect with like-minded peers.

Lunchbox Theatre

Lunchbox Theatre offers free, process-centered Saturday theatre workshops for members of the local community, including children and teens. Led by Sarah Lawrence graduate and undergraduate students, the program helps participants develop theatre skills, creative expression, and lasting connections through making and sharing art together.

Community Adventure Play Experience (CAPE)

Presented by the Child Development Institute, the Community Adventure Play Experience (CAPE) gives children the freedom to invent, build, collaborate, and solve problems through unstructured play. Using cardboard, fabric, wood, tires, and other reusable materials, children transform everyday objects into creations shaped by their own ideas and imaginations.
