The hallmarks of a Sarah Lawrence education—small classes and one-on-one meetings with faculty—are what set our programs apart from others. Since our programs are open to guests, students from Sarah Lawrence and other selective colleges study side by side during a stimulating semester or year abroad.

This remarkable program will introduce you to the contemporary Cuba—a mix of innovative ideas, weathered facades, lavish beauty, persistent history, artistic sensitivity, and genuine friendliness. As part of a select group, students will learn firsthand how and why Cuban culture has shaped—and reshaped—both the regional and international landscapes.
One of the more unique and specialized programs in the city, Sarah Lawrence offers what is arguably the most genuine experience of living and learning in Florence. Students delve into seminars with Italian faculty, work with creative artists in their studios, study music in Florentine conservatories, take a class at the University of Florence, and live with Italian families. Sarah Lawrence offers a highly selective spring semester in Sicily’s second-largest city. Undergraduates who have completed advanced intermediate Italian may study alongside native classmates in classes conducted entirely in Italian. A rich and in-depth exploration in Catania will marry students’ academic pursuits in literature, history, and the arts with their daily life. London Theatre Program
Located in the theatre capital of the world, this conservatory program for American undergraduates is run exclusively by the British American Drama Academy (BADA). The London Theatre Program offers undergraduate students an opportunity to work and study with leading actors and directors from the world of British theatre. Through a combination of classes, tutorials, master classes and performances, students take part in the great theatrical tradition of Britain.
Sarah Lawrence at Oxford has earned a reputation as one of the most rigorous and respected programs integrating American students into the life of this prestigious university. Members of the university, referred to as tutors, will be assigned to teach two tutorials based on students’ respective backgrounds and experiences as well as their level of interest and expertise in the subject matter. Tutorials are the centerpiece of Oxford’s educational experience, fostering intimacy, dialogue, commitment, and engagement.
Sarah Lawrence allows undergraduates to enroll in small seminar courses at Reid Hall with its own faculty as well as the opportunity to attend classes at Paris' premier educational institutions. Each course is complemented by weekly or bi-weekly conference work sessions, during which students will work individually with professors, delving deeper into course material. The program also offers a wide range of visual and performing arts courses at various studios and conservatories in and around Paris.
New program! Sarah Lawrence College in Beijing is designed for students who have completed a minimum of one year of Chinese (Mandarin) at the college level. The program is being offered in conjunction with the Alliance for Global Education in China.
Sarah Lawrence students interested in studying abroad in Japan may choose from exchange programs with two universities: Tsuda College in Tokyo, which is a women's college, and Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, which is co-ed.
The Sarah Lawrence College in Peru program allows students with a high level of Spanish fluency to take four courses during their semester abroad in Peru. Students will take one core course and three electives. The core course, which also doubles as a course in reading and composition in Spanish, is taught by the program's resident coordinator, a well-known Peruvian poet. It is designed to familiarize our students with Lima's cultural, historical, and social palimpsest, through visits to various sites where they can observe five thousand years of Peruvian history and development.
Held in the spring, the Human Development in Sub-Saharan Africa program focuses on understanding and effectively addressing human development in sub-Saharan African contexts. An integral component of the program is learning how to understand, implement, and evaluate effective community-based work in each location studied. With a focus on Southern and Eastern Africa, students will spend five weeks in each of the following locations: Rural Tanzania, Urban Malawi, and rural Zimbabwe. In addition to coursework in psychology and history, all students will spend 15-20 hours a week performing fieldwork in local community-based organizations.

Summer Arts in Berlin, Germany
Designed for those with an interest in the Contemporary Arts, students will explore Berlin's well earned reputation as the city for the Arts. Not only will you learn more about Berlin's history through literature, dance, art and architecture, you will also attend documenta13, one of the leading exhibitions of contemporary and modern art in the world. The Geography of Faith: Paul and the Emergence of Christianity in the Aegean
Sarah Lawrence faculty member Cameron Afzal will introduce students to the Greco-Roman world and the impact of the Apostle Paul’s work in major urban centers of the Eastern Mediterranean. The class will focus on religion and life in the ancient Greek city with a view to understanding how Christianity took root and grew in these cities; as such, students will be introduced to the Pauline Epistles and the social world implied therein. This will be accomplished with a combination of seminar work in the classroom and site visits to the major ancient sites where Paul lived and worked. Learn more»
Summer in Florence, Italy
For more than 25 years, Sarah Lawrence has offered an academic semester/year-long program in Florence that allows students to immerse themselves in the rich culture of this city and its environs. Now, the College is pleased to offer this experience to students through a new summer program.
