Reunion Giving

Reunion is a time to reflect on the Sarah Lawrence experience, celebrate with classmates, and reconnect with the College. It is also an opportunity to begin, renew, or increase your giving to Sarah Lawrence.

Reunion gifts are contributions to The Fund for Sarah Lawrence during the fiscal year surrounding a reunion (June 1 to May 31).

Contributions include:

  • Gifts from any member of a graduating class (including matching gifts and those from family foundations).
  • Gifts in honor of any member of a graduating class (including gifts arranged by corporate or public foundations).
  • Any planned gift that receives Sarah Lawrence gift credit.
  • Confirmations of a bequest provision in a will or living trust.
  • Establishment of a life-income gift.
  • Naming the College as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement plan.

In addition to counting as a reunion gift, bequest provisions, life-income gifts, and naming of the College as a beneficiary also earn donors membership in the William & Sarah Lawrence Society.

Event fees or dues do not count as gifts to Sarah Lawrence or reunion.

2018 Reunion Year

2018 is a reunion year for all class years ending in three and eight; the reunion year runs June 1, 2017 to May 31, 2018. All gifts, restricted and unrestricted, given to Sarah Lawrence College since the last reunion in 2013 count as “Comprehensive Giving” for Reunion 2018.

Make a Reunion Gift

A significant part of the legacy left by each class is the loyal support and inspiration it gives to future generations of Sarah Lawrence students through the class gift.

You can support the College through a single gift, multi-year pledge, or planned giving arrangement.

Help increase class participation rates and gift totals; make your donation before May 31, 2017.

Class Gift Goals

  • Participation
Participation is a critical indicator of alumni satisfaction with their alma mater. It is also a key benchmark for foundations and corporations when making decisions about grants to the College.
  • Total Gift
The Fund for Sarah Lawrence gift is the total amount of all unrestricted gifts from any member of the class in the current fiscal year.
  • Comprehensive Reunion Gift
The five-year comprehensive gift total includes all gifts to restricted and unrestricted funds since the last reunion.

Class Recognition

At reunion, individual classes are recognized with two kinds of awards and celebrations: The Reunion Terrace Awards and The Westlands Awards.

Reunion Terrace Awards
A class receives the Reunion Terrace Award if:

  • Unrestricted gifts to The Fund for Sarah Lawrence total at least $100,000 during the current reunion year.
  • The class has 25 percent membership in the William & Sarah Lawrence Society.
  • Comprehensive giving totals a minimum of $1,500,000. This includes all class gifts to the College since the last reunion.
  • Comprehensive giving totals a minimum of $500,000 during the current reunion year.

Westlands Awards
The Westlands Awards were established in 2007 to recognize outstanding fundraising efforts by classes celebrating their reunions. The awards honor classes for their enthusiasm and generosity. Reunion gifts and pledges for all purposes during the fiscal year are counted toward class gift totals to determine Westlands Awards winners.
