After Sarah Lawrence, Kay's Fulbright Fellowship took her to India, where she honed her gift of storytelling in word and image. The Peace Corps, Smithsonian Magazine, Fortune 500 companies, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute were among projects Kay sought out important and complex narratives. While working on human trafficking in 2005, Kay used art, narrative and photography to reframe how survivors stories were told, and in 2011 founded ArtWorks for Freedom, a global initiative that brings art to expose the truth about modern-day slavery, and calls upon people to act within their power to eradicate it.
