The Role of the Regional Chapter Volunteer
-
As a chapter volunteer, you will be engaging alumni in or near your city. You will serve as a resource for fellow alumni and a liaison to the Office of Alumni Relations. Your feedback and leadership are vital as they will provide the keys to successful programming and alumni efforts.
-
We ask that chapter volunteers be available for two to three chapter-related planning conference calls per year. During these calls, volunteers work collaboratively to plan three to five chapter activities per year. A member of the Alumni Relations staff will schedule and facilitate the calls and serve as a resource for the volunteers as they plan these events.
-
In addition to the events planned by the volunteers, the Office of Alumni Relations will hold a number of office-sponsored events in the region (such as Faculty on the Road, Holiday Parties, and Receptions with Sarah Lawrence faculty or staff). Chapter Volunteers are expected to attend chapter events to fulfill the role of spokesperson for the alumni and receive feedback or new ideas for programs and events.
-
As chapter volunteers, your efforts to encourage attendance are vital to the success of events. The Office of Alumni Relations will provide contact information for personal outreach in support of alumni events and programs. To receive contact information for volunteer projects, all chapter volunteers must complete the confidentiality agreement.
-
The Office of Alumni Relations will facilitate program promotion and invitations. RSVP lists will be provided to the chapter volunteers in advance of the event. During the event, we ask that the chapter volunteer make note of the names of alumni that have attended in order to assist with participation metrics to help better plan future efforts. Feedback on events is extremely helpful! We also love photos and we ask chapter volunteers to send event pics for posting on the alumni website. In the case of office-sponsored events, a member of the Alumni Relations team will be present to take attendance and photos.
-
Chapter Volunteers work with the Alumni Relations team to recruit and train new regional alumni volunteers.
-
Chapter volunteers take a leadership role in supporting the growth of the region's Facebook group, in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Relations.
Support from the Office of Alumni Relations
A staff member from the Office of Alumni Relations is assigned to each Regional Chapter to work with and support that chapter's volunteers. Here's what we do to help:
- Provide staff guidance and planning support for all regional alumni events.
- Handle all contracts and event set up details and follows up.
- Develop and mail/e-mail all regional event communications.
- Receive and process event registrations via the Sarah Lawrence Alumni website.
- Plan, implement, and staff office-sponsored Events including Faculty on the Road, Holiday Parties, and Receptions with speakers from campus.
- Provide alumni lists as needed to chapter alumni volunteers who have signed the Volunteer Confidentiality Statement.
- Serve as a resource for the current Chapter Volunteer group and manage and assist with the recruitment of new regional alumni volunteers.
