About the Esther Raushenbush Library

Mission Statement

The Sarah Lawrence College Library empowers our community of scholars, learners, educators, and creators by providing access to diverse, high-quality resources, fostering intellectual exploration, and promoting critical inquiry across and within disciplines. We are committed to ensuring that all members of the Sarah Lawrence community—students, faculty, and staff—have the tools, knowledge, and support to engage meaningfully with the world of information.

We are committed to the following values:

  • Prioritizing diversity, equity, inclusivity, accessibility, and belonging through our collections, services, and spaces and ensuring that all voices are heard, respected and welcomed.
  • Developing the Library as a place where ideas are exchanged, collaboration encouraged, creativity celebrated, and where every individual can find pathways to knowledge, growth, and discovery, reflecting the richness of our academic community.
  • Building a library that reflects the ever-changing needs of our community and supports the exploration of new ideas, and champions innovation in scholarship, pedagogy, and the arts.
