The mission of The Writing Institute is to connect lifelong learners to the writing classes and the community they need to tell their stories. Our writing experiences are inclusive of all writers across genres, whether this is your first writing class or you’re writing your next book. Together we celebrate books, reading, and writing as a way to empower our creative community.
To apply for a partial or full scholarship, please see the scholarship application calendar below. We encourage interested writers to apply early. The Kathryn Gurfein Writing Fellowship presented by the Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College
From 2007 to 2022, the Kathryn Gurfein Writing Fellowship was presented to recipients with a yearlong opportunity to work closely with a faculty mentor on the writing project of their choice. Fellows have gone on to publish memoirs, novels and articles as well as teach at the Writing Institute. We are grateful to Kathryn Gurfein and the many people who made this fellowship possible.
