Dance Theatres and Studios

The Performing Arts Center, or the PAC, is home to our dance programs and the College's largest performance spaces. Each of our performance spaces in the PAC offers unique experiences for both the performers and the audience members. We also have dance studios in two of our residential halls.

Bessie Schönberg Dance Theatre

The Bessie Schönberg Dance Theatre is located in the Performing Arts Center and is the home base of the SLC Dance Program. More commonly known as “The Bessie”, this theatre is the primary performance venue for all of the Dance Program’s performances. The Bessie is also the primary classroom for many of the dance courses offered each year, including Movement Studio, Live Time-Based Art, Performance Project, Guest Artist Lab, Improvisation, and more. As a theatre, the Bessie is equipped with a professional lighting grid, two lumen video projectors, a recently upgraded sound system, and a seating capacity of approximately 100.

Small Dance Studio

The Small Dance Studio is located in the Performing Arts Center, adjacent to the Bessie, and serves as a warm-up space during performances. This studio has wood floors, mirrors with curtains, and a barre; it is primarily used for MFA students’ personal studio time and as a warm-up space for dance faculty.

MacCracken Dance Studio

The MacCracken Dance Studio is located in the bottom floor of the MacCracken Dorm. This is the Dance Program’s second largest studio, with large windows lining both sides of the space, a Marley floor, mirrors with curtains, and moveable barres. Many dance courses meet in this studio each semester, including Ballet and Anatomy.

Caldwell Dance Studio

The Caldwell Dance Studio is located in the bottom floor of the MacCracken Dorm, adjacent to the MacCracken Dance Studio. This studio has large windows, a Marley floor, mirrors with curtains, and foldable tumbling mats. While Caldwell Dance Studio is primarily used by the Dance/Movement Therapy program for class, the Dance Program’s MFA students also use this space for their group rehearsals.

Titsworth Dance Studio

The Titsworth Dance Studio is located in the base floor of Titsworth Hall. This studio has wood floors, mirrors, and foldable tumbling mats; it is primarily used for MFA students’ personal studio time and rehearsals, though a dance course may use the studio as a classroom if certain materials are needed (e.g., bodywork table for Alexander Technique).
