Writing faculty member and alumnus Brian Morton ’78 has released his latest book, Writing as a Way of Life: A Book About Art, Craft, and Devotion (Black Lawrence Press, September 9). The book offers writers at every stage tools and inspiration for sustaining a lifelong creative practice. Drawing on his career as a novelist, memoirist, and teacher, Morton weaves together stories from writers such as Virginia Woolf and Anton Chekhov, alongside insights from artists and thinkers as varied as Joni Mitchell and Miss Manners.
To mark the release, Morton will give a public talk, “Trust Your Stuff,” on Tuesday, November 11, at 2:00 PM in the Slonim Living Room. The craft talk will explore how writers can move past self-doubt by embracing their strengths.
Morton, the author of seven books including Starting Out in the Evening, has been a member of the Sarah Lawrence faculty since 1998.
