With summer around the corner, we can think of no better way to commemorate the season than by adding to our summer reading list. Luckily, The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College has some great recommendations.
On Saturday, June 17, the SLC Writing Institute along with Groundwork Hudson Valley and Tables of Contents will be hosting “Books on the Barge,” a unique author talk and cocktail hour on the Science Barge in Yonkers, NY.
This is an evening dedicated to environmentalism, fiction, and community where author Allegra Hyde will give an intimate reading from her new book The Last Catastrophe (Penguin 2023), followed by an author talk. Guests will enjoy hors d'oeuvres inspired by the book. Don’t miss this event and register today!
For those unable to make Saturday’s event, “One Night in June: Wrexham Road Reading Series” will take place on June 22nd at the beautiful, outdoor Remy Theatre. This event brings together writers from within and beyond the Sarah Lawrence College community and celebrates new books across fiction and poetry. This year’s writers include authors Barbara Josselsohn, Cynthia Manick, Helen Schulman, and Priyanka Taslim. Light refreshments will be served, and books will be for sale by Transom Bookshop. This event is free and open to all, register today to reserve your spot.
Launched in 1983, The Writing Institute began with three classes for “adults serious about the adventure of writing.” Now in its 40th year, the Writing Institute has grown into a robust writing community, serving hundreds of writers every year with more than 70 classes to choose from.
