In Roland Barthes's essay on plastic, Neither Hard Nor Deep was part of his description of the fascinating new material, plastic, which seemed to have no permanent qualities at all. Similarly Robert Frosts Poem,Neither Far Out nor Deep, describes the limits of human perception while ocean-gazing. Jessica will present video and sculptural work and research practices in ecological thinking and material histories. Part of this work is bringing forth unseen ecological relationships. 

Jessica’s work is built on a foundation of research that often includes cross-disciplinary collaboration with scientists, activists, plants and animals. She exhibits her work internationally, including at COP 26, The Fries Museum, The Coreana Museum of Art, The Havana Bienal, The Queens Museum of Art, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, The National Museum of Jewish American History, The Inside Out Museum, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Vojvodina, The National Gallery of Indonesia, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Split, Croatia, The Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery, The Bangkok Biennial and The National Symposium for Electronic Art. 

Jessica is a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow and a 2025 Smithsonian Artist Research Fellow. She received grants from The Pollock Krasner Foundation, Mondriaan Fonds, The Berlin Senate, New York Foundation for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts and Art Matters. She attended residencies at Van Eyck Academie, MacDowell, Skowhegan, Caltech and The New Mexico Museum of Art among others. Her work has been featured in Cabinet Magazine, e-flux Criticism and Frieze. 

Jessica is currently teaching Metal Playground in the Sculpture Dept. at Sarah Lawrence College.
