Tuesday, February 20, 2018 5:30 p.m., Donnelley Film theatre Heimbold Visual Arts Center SLC Inaugural Year Event: The 2018 Lynd Colloquium part of a series of events on campus exploring the inaugural year theme of Democracy and Education Kyes Stevens MA ’99, MFA ’00 is the founder and director of the Alabama Prison Arts + Education Project at Auburn University, a program that serves 10 of the 15 major prisons in Alabama through pre-college and college classes. In 2016, through this program, the first Bachelor of Science degree for the Alabama prison system was launched. Stevens worked with colleagues across the country to build the foundation for the National Alliance for Higher Education in Prison and has also been involved in the development of a national organization to support artists who teach in corrections. The Lynd Colloquium is sponsored by the Helen Merrell Lynd Colloquium Fund. #slcdemocracyeducation #sarahlawrencecollege

A MacDowell Colony fellow, Leland Cheuk authored The Misadventures of Sulliver Pong (CCLaP, 2015), a novel, and Letters from Dinosaurs (Thought Catalog, 2016), stories. His work has been covered in VICE, The Millions, and The Rumpus, and appears or is forthcoming in Salon, Catapult, Kenyon Review, and elsewhere.

Cheuk participated in The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College's Wrexham Road Reading Series on October 4. The series brings together writers from within and outside the Sarah Lawrence College community to share their work. This fall, as the College celebrates the inauguration of president, Cristle Collins Judd, the series focuses on the inaugural theme, Democracy and Education.
