The Yonkers Film Festival (YoFiFest) is presenting a Sarah Lawrence College Showcase on November 6, 2017 at 6 p.m. at the YOFI DMAC Theater, 66 Main Street in downtown Yonkers, screening new films, Giselle by Severine Reisp and Halina by Xueni Yang. Tickets may be purchased here.

Giselle (running 23 min.) is a narrative dance film in which a Syrian refugee falls in love with a charming, but career-driven politician. Written, directed, and produced by Sarah Lawrence College senior Severine Reisp, Giselle has already received a number of accolades including, Best Dance Film at Festigious Los Angeles International Film Festival, Best First Time Director at New York Film Awards, Best Dance Film at Paris Play Film Festival, Best Music Video by Chautauqua International Film Festival, Best Choreography at the Oniros Film Awards Italy, and Best Student Dance Film by Divulge Dancer’s Film Festival, Los Angeles.

Halina (running 15 min.), written, directed, and produced by Xueni Yang, is about an aspiring pianist who suddenly loses her hearing. After leaving the stage, she is discovered by a young music producer discovers her and encourages her to play in his upcoming concert, transcending her disability. Xueni Yang is a third year student at Sarah Lawrence concentrating in filmmaking.

"Our student showcases are always one of my favorite to curate and host because they give a place and an audience to films from emerging filmmakers that might not be seen outside of a school campus. And this year's Sarah Lawrence College Showcase is especially interesting to us because both these films, Giselle and Halina, were written and directed by women and have powerful female lead characters," says Patty Schumann, Festival director and programmer.

YoFiFest has been honored as one of the “Top 100 Best Reviewed Festivals” and named “Best of Westchester” in Westchester Magazine.
