Over the past generation, scholars have offered a much deeper and more persuasive account of the centrality of religious issues in shaping the political and cultural worlds of Restoration England. However, the voices of individual dissenters have not always been clearly heard.
Dr. George Southcombe, director of the Sarah Lawrence College programme at Wadham College, Oxford, will discuss his new book, which offers a fresh and challenging approach to the understanding of those people that the confessional state of Restoration England had no prospect of silencing.
