Gary Burnley creates physical collages and stereographic devices that encourage dissociated images to merge in the eye and mind of the viewer. Resulting in optical rivalries that explores representation, memory and an image’s meaning through contrast, his amalgamations construct unimaginable existences. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the US and abroad including Aperture Gallery, NYC, Ogden Museum, New Orleans, LA., Tbilisi University, Tbilisi, Georgia, SALON, Florence, Italy, Candela Gallery, Richmond, Va., Honey Ramaka Gallery, Brooklyn, NY, Holly Solomon Gallery, NYC, Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, TX, Artist Space, NYC. Burnley was a finalist for the Clarence John Laughlin Photography Award in 2018 and the FotoFilimic Mesh Award in 2019. He has been the recipient of individual artist fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, State of CT, New York State Council and Creative Artist Public Service, NYC. and awarded public commissions by the MTA, NYC and St. Louis Bi-State Development. Born in Saint Louis, Missouri, Burnley received a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis and a MFA from Yale University.
