A recent Haverford College graduate reflects on her work in Southwest Philadelphia, facilitating engagement with the local environment—of neighborhood residents with the river garden in their backyard, and of college students with people and places beyond the edges of their campus.
Chloe Wang is a post-bac fellow of Haverford College, where she studied chemistry and environmental studies. At Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia, she helps deliver public recreation and educational programs on the Lower Schuylkill River. With Haverford faculty, she is designing interdisciplinary, field-based environmental studies courses.
She has researched Gulf of Mexico oil, deep sea microbe-mineral interactions, honeybee health, and plastics in the Delaware River watershed, and has artwork on view at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education. Raised along the Hudson, Chloe counts a job on the Yonkers Science Barge among formative experiences in environmental work.
