Peter Godfrey-Smith is Professor of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Sydney and author of Other Minds: The Octopus, the Sea, and the Deep Origins of Consciousness. His main research interests are in the philosophy of biology and the philosophy of mind. Godfrey-Smith is a philosopher and diver who has been studying octopuses and other cephalopods in the wild, mostly off the coast of his native Sydney, for years. He also works on pragmatism (especially John Dewey), general philosophy of science, metaphysics and epistemology.
