Please note: This event is open to Sarah Lawrence students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
The Office of Alumni Relations presents a SLC Faculty@Home screening and discussion of The House on Coco Road with director and filmmaking faculty member Damani Baker '96. Set amidst the Grenada Revolution, The House on Coco Road documents one family's flight from racial tensions in 1980's Oakland, California, only to find themselves settled directly in the path of a U.S. military invasion. First-hand accounts from activists Angela Davis, Fania Davis, and Fannie Haughton weave together director Damani Baker's family portrait of utopian dreams, resistance, and civil unrest with a film score composed by music luminary Meshell Ndegeocello. This discussion will be moderated by Brian Emery '07.
Advance registration is required, and this event is open only to Sarah Lawrence students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Links to view the film and participate in the event via Zoom will be shared with registrants on Friday, September 18, or email alum@sarahlawrence.edu.
