Visual & Studio Arts Lecture Series—Matthew F Fisher
Heimbold Visual Arts Center 208

1:30pm-3:00pm Add to calendar
Painter Matthew F Fisher lives and works in Brooklyn, NY and Los Angeles, CA. He has been the recipient of numerous residencies and awards including the Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant (2016), Yaddo, Saratoga Springs, New York (2015, 2007) and the New York Foundation for the Arts (2010). Recent solo exhibitions include Taymore Grahne Gallery, New York, NY, and One River, Englewood, NJ (2017), Airlock Gallery, San Marco, CA (2016), and Sardine, Brooklyn, NY (2015). Recent group shows include The Dot Project, London, UK (2017), Work Release, Norfolk, VA (2017), Ampersand Gallery, Portland, OR (2017). The works in the exhibit, says the artist, are images of a moment, or maybe several, that have happened or will. Or maybe not. They're not magical, they're not superficial or surreal. Rather they are once in a life time, action frozen just at the right instant so that everything lines up with the edge of the canvas or other elements within the painting. They are paintings heavily indebted to history, he thinks that's more important than the idea of the future, but they are also free of history by being futuristic. Our location, right then and there is transformed into something special. Our cosmic placement, both in space, time, and on this earth, was the exact reason why we saw what we see.
