Beyond the Classroom: The Experiential Learning Center (XLC)

At Sarah Lawrence, learning has never been confined to the classroom. The Experiential Learning Center, or XLC as we're calling it, brings together the people, programs, and resources that help students connect their interests and education to meaningful experiences beyond campus, and to help them prepare for what comes next.

Located at the heart of campus, in close proximity to the Barbara Walters Campus Center, the HUB, and the library, the XLC is a welcoming, collaborative space where students can explore career paths, find internships, connect with community organizations, pursue global experiences, prepare for graduate or professional school, and put their learning into practice.

By connecting these programs in one highly visible and accessible location, the XLC makes it easier for students to discover opportunities, receive guidance, and see the many ways their academic interests can translate into purposeful work and engagement. Students can begin exploring from the moment they arrive at Sarah Lawrence and continue building experiences, skills, and relationships throughout their time at the College.

This integrated approach also allows the XLC's staff and faculty to collaborate across programs, helping students make connections among their coursework, internships, community-based learning, global experiences, career goals, and plans for further study.

A Space Designed for Experiential Learning

The Experiential Learning Center reflects the collaborative and self-directed ways Sarah Lawrence students learn while introducing them to the spaces and practices of today’s workplace. Open coworking areas and shared offices invite students to collaborate and exchange ideas, while soundproof pods provide a private space for virtual internships and interviews. By using these spaces, students gain experience navigating the shared, private, and virtual modes of work they are likely to encounter beyond college.
