Writing professor Marie Howe

TimesUnion.com reports that Governor Andrew Cuomo has named Writing faculty member Marie Howe the State Poet of New York. Howe is the 10th poet to hold the two-year title. Of her work, Stanley Kunitz, the first named State Poet of the State of New York, says, “Marie Howe’s poetry is luminous, intense, and eloquent, rooted in an abundant inner life. Her long, deep-breathing lines address the mysteries of flesh and spirit, in terms accessible only to a woman who is very much of our time and yet still in touch with the sacred.”
