SLC MEMORIES Steven: "In the early '70s, when the library was still located in MacCracken, the outside ivy had penetrated many of the old casement windows and it's tendrils around the stacks, creating an enchanted garden among the study carrels. It was magical, an environment only Sarah Lawrence could provide."
Nancie: "At SLC I studied with Richard Pousette-Dart, a brilliant abstract expressionist painter here. you're an artist! When I graduated and began my first job as a product and package designer, I know I'd be designing items like stationery and china, things he might consider too commercial. But I felt that I was using my creativity to make everyday items beautiful, as well as functional, and I hoped he would be proud of that and agree that an artist acan work beyond canvas."
STATEMENT "Sarah Lawrence provided us with a unique opportunity to be listened to and feel valued as adults before the rest of the world began to take us seriously. Our teachers encouraged us to delight in ourselves, our work, and those delicate budding souls around us. And the College prepared us to give back to the world, to be ardent listeners, to speak with confidence, and to spread a little Sarah Lawrence spirit wherever we go."
