To our students, faculty, staff, more than 20,000 alumni in 80 countries, and to our families and friends around the globe, we wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy new year. As the year comes to a close, there is still time, through the end of 12/31, to take advantage of a provision in the CARES Acts, which allows a deduction of up to $300 in charitable contributions - whether or not you itemize your 2020 tax return. Thank you for supporting our students and faculty as we, together, continue to navigate this exceptional year.

An end of semester message from President Judd: “As we conclude this truly singular fall semester, I want to express my admiration and deep appreciation for the accomplishments of our students, faculty, staff, and community. Together, from around the world, we have connected meaningfully, creating entirely new ways to come together and to share our work. And at every moment, amidst the backdrop of a de-centering pandemic, we have remained true to the values that are the hallmark of Sarah Lawrence College: recognizing the impact of our individual actions on others; engaging deeply with learning, teaching, creating, and researching; and embracing change, as our mission says, “to tackle the problems of, and thrive in, a rapidly evolving world.” “I look forward to sharing with you in January reflections on, and lessons from, the fall semester. In the meantime, as we approach a new year—one that brings with it the hope of incremental improvement and stability—I want to wish those of you who observe holidays this month joyous (and safe) celebrations, and, for our students, faculty, and staff, an opportunity to recover and recharge over a well-deserved winter break. “From Sarah Lawrence to our more than 20,000 alumni in 80 countries, and to our families and friends around the globe, I wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy end to 2020 and best wishes for the new year.” Video directed by Evan Suzuki ’20 Edited by Darcy Thomspon ’19 Music by Kat Carlsen ’19 #sarahlawrencecollege #sarahlawrencetogether

Surya Sangwan '16 approaches video game design with a keen eye and uses the lessons he learned in faculty member Angela Ferraiolo's courses to highlight connections that enhance the in-game experience “Angela's game design courses greatly helped me figure out how to accentuate the parts of the game I want a player to be struck by," Surya says. In the case of Secure the Skies, his recently completed game now available on Steam, gameplay pairs aerial flight with a musical component that is both fun and challenging yet also approachable for those among us who lack rhythm specifically. ➡️to see a short clip

This week, Biology faculty member Michelle Hersh logged in for her course, General Biology: Genes, Cells, and Evolution, and couldn’t figure out why none of her students had their cameras on. After some brief, unanswered coaxing to turn video on, Michelle was stunned to see many student cameras come to life simultaneously. What she saw brought her to tears, as her students thoughtfully professed their appreciation as the semester comes to a close. “It’s been a long and challenging semester for all of us,” says Michelle, “but seeing this reminded me that we truly have been connecting in a meaningful way even while separated by distance and learning virtually. I was so touched, as my ugly cry shows!” #sarahlawrencetogether #sarahlawrencecollege
