Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act

  • Sarah Lawrence College has signed and returned to the United States Department of Education a Certification and Agreement that the College will use no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide emergency financial aid grants to students.
  • Sarah Lawrence College received $472,228 from the United States Department of Education pursuant to our Certification and Agreement for emergency financial aid grants to students.

    • Tier 3 EFC > $30,001, $200–$425 grant

HEERF II
Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA)

  • The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) provided additional funds to colleges and universities, including Sarah Lawrence College, to support students whose lives and educations have been impacted by the pandemic. The funding provided assistance to students who are Title IV eligible students (students eligible to apply for financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid [FAFSA]) and who needed support for the cost of attendance or for emergency costs that have arisen due to COVID-19, such as tuition, food, housing, health care, and/or child care.
  • The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II (HEERFII) was authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 202, Public Law 116-260, and signed into law on Dec. 27, 2020.
  • Sarah Lawrence College received $1,338,169 in total funds, $472,228 of which was designated for student grants.
  • The following tiers representing a student’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC) were used to determine the initial grant amount that could be distributed to a student. Students were expected to verify that they incurred additional travel, technology, room, board, or other educational costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Subsequent grants were issued prioritizing high-need students in subsequent terms or with demonstrated additional need, contingent on the availability of funding.

HEERF III
American Rescue Plan (ARP)

  • The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERFIII) was authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Public Law 117-2, signed into law on March 11, 2021, providing $39.6 billion in support to institutions of higher education for students to continue learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Sarah Lawrence College received $2,393,321 in total funds, $1,196,661 of which was targeted for student financial aid.
  • The following tiers representing a student’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC) were used to determine the initial grant amount that could be distributed to a student. Students were expected to verify that they incurred additional travel, technology, room, board, or other educational costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
    • Tier 1 EFC = $0–$10,000, $1,850 grant
    • Tier 2 EFC = $10,001–$30,000, $900 grant
    • Tier 3 EFC > $30,001, $400 grant
  • Subsequent grants were issued prioritizing high-need students in subsequent terms or with demonstrated additional need, contingent on the availability of funding
