Application Guidelines

Applicants for the M.F.A. program in Dance must have received a Bachelor of Arts or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university. Previous college work is expected to be at 3.0 or higher and should reflect advanced course study. Students are accepted on a full-time basis only.

Complete the online application form, inclusive of the essay, that applies to your program of interest.

Application Fee

A nonrefundable application fee of $60 must be submitted; upon completion of the application, online payment will become available. Payments may also be made by check or money order to Sarah Lawrence College, and submitted via mail.

An official transcript from each undergraduate and graduate institution you have attended is required prior to enrollment in the graduate program. Only official transcripts sent directly by the institution to Graduate Studies at Sarah Lawrence College will be accepted. It is the applicant's responsibility to see that official transcripts (one copy only) from all colleges and universities attended are sent directly from each school to the Graduate Studies Office (have them specify program on envelope).

Applicants will be asked to submit the names of two recommenders with their online application. You should ask people who know you well enough to give an informed opinion as to your intellectual ability for sustained academic effort. If you are unable to contact former teachers, we welcome letters from others, such as employers, who can make similar assessments. Preferably, one of those should be from a person in your field of interest.

January 1.
Application deadlines are the same for non-U.S. applicants as for U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

An interview is required for M.F.A. in Dance applicants. Interviews will be held February 28, 2015 and March 7, 2015.

If travel to Sarah Lawrence would be a burden, alternatives may be arranged. Interviews are arranged by invitation AFTER all materials have been reviewed. Once the selection committee has reviewed complete applications it will invite qualifying candidates to audition. We also encourage a campus visit to observe classes on either the Friday preceding or the Monday following these dates.
