1. Faculty office visits.
Faculty office visits are available by appointment. These visits provide the opportunity for a faculty member to
meet with a reference librarian to discuss library resources and bibliographic research tools, including online databases. You may request a faculty office visit online.
2. "Ask a Reference Question". Email service for reference questions.
In response to electronic inquiries from faculty members the reference librarians can answer brief, factual questions, recommend search strategies and resources, explain
library policies and procedures and make referrals. If the reference question requires in-depth research the librarian may recommend a faculty office visit instead. "Ask a Reference Question"
3. Bibliographic Instruction sessions
The Reference Department strongly encourages all faculty members to bring their classes to the library for bibliographic instruction sessions. These sessions will provide your students with
exposure to research tools and search methodologies that will prove helpful for their coursework at Sarah Lawrence College and beyond. Bibliographic instruction sessions for first year studies
take place at the beginning of the Fall semester while other classes can schedule sessions at any time in the year. To schedule a bibliographic instruction session please call the
Reference Department at x2225 or email us at reference@slc.edu.
4. Referrals to other libraries
The reference librarians can provide referrals to some libraries within the New York metropolitan region. Faculty members should
start by searching other library catalogs. Once a source is located in a library other than Sarah Lawrence, the reference librarian can call that
library to try to arrange access to the collection for the SLC faculty member. To arrange for a referral, or if you need help searching other library catalogs, please call the Reference
office at x2225 or email us at reference@slc.edu.
