Reunion Giving
At Sarah Lawrence all students benefit from the generosity of alumni who financially invest in the College. Your participation and support play a critical role in the lives of current and future students as they engage fully in the Sarah Lawrence experience. Alumni support helps to establish a foundation for their lifelong learning and success.
Reunion is a time to learn about the remarkable contributions that our alumni make to culture, to the sciences, to the professions, and to the public sphere. This is a great time to network and reconnect with each other. It is a time to reflect on and celebrate the influence Sarah Lawrence has had on your life. It is also a perfect time to pass along your experiences and support to future generations of students.
Goals
Participation in Reunion Giving sends a message to fellow alumni and to current students that your class is committed to the preservation of the Sarah Lawrence pedagogy. The percentage of alumni who give to the College is a critical benchmark for foundations and corporations as they make decisions about grants to the College. Class participation is a key measurement of alumni commitment.
The Total FSL (Fund for Sarah Lawrence) Gift is the total of all unrestricted gifts donated by members of your class in the current fiscal year.
The 5-Year Comprehensive Gift Total includes all gifts from members of your class to Sarah Lawrence since your last reunion (June 1, 2007 – May 31, 2012).
Reunion Gifts
During your reunion cycle all gifts made by you and your classmates to The Fund for Sarah Lawrence are counted as comprehensive reunion gifts.
What Counts?
- Any gift to The Fund for Sarah Lawrence made by a member of your class during your reunion cycle
- Gifts made in your or in a classmate's honor by an alumna/us or friend of SLC
- A Class Gift directed to the College by a family foundation
- A gift arranged by a classmate from a corporation or public foundation
- Any planned gift made by a class member is included in your class' reunion effort. Confirming a bequest to the College in your will or living trust or naming the College as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy or retirement plan gains you membership in the William & Sarah Lawrence Society and in many cases this type of gift can be counted toward your class goal.
Note: Event fees and dues do not count as gifts to Sarah Lawrence or to Reunion.
Class Recognition
At Reunion, individual classes are recognized with two kinds of special awards and celebrations: The Reunion Terrace and the Westlands Awards.
Reunion Terrace
When gifts made to The Fund for Sarah Lawrence by members of your class total a minimum of $100,000, the class will earn a plaque that is installed on Reunion Terrace.
Another way a class can qualify for a Reunion Terrace plaque is to reach 25% membership in the William & Sarah Lawrence Society by including the College in their estate planning.
Classes will be honored with a plaque on Reunion Terrace when their Comprehensive Giving Total reaches $1.5 million.
